A Legacy of Compassion: Honouring Charl and Arie’s Vision

Driven by Charl’s legacy, we’re dedicated to transforming the lives of children in underfunded homes.

Through essential repairs, renovations and supplies, we bring warmth, stability and hope to children who deserve a safe and supportive environment to dream new dreams.

Our Story of Hope and Legacy

The Charl Munnik Foundation for Kids was born out of loss but continues to bring hope.

Charl Munnik

Charl’s life was tragically cut short at the age of 44 during a robbery in his jewellery shop on 29 January 2021.

Suzanne Haylett

Deeply moved and inspired by her brother’s compassion and commitment to improving the lives of vulnerable children, Suzanne decided to continue his legacy and establish this foundation to make a real, lasting difference for children in underfunded children’s homes.

Arie Fourie

Arie shared Charl’s unwavering commitment to children’s welfare and worked alongside Suzanne to establish a foundation in Charl’s name that would carry on his kindness. Together, they dedicated their efforts to repairing and upgrading children’s homes, bringing comfort, warmth and dignity to children across the region.

Tragically, Arie died in a car accident on 8 March 2024, just ten days before his 48th birthday, leaving behind his vision of a world where every child has the chance to dream, to be safe and cared for.

Their Legacy Continues

While Charl and Arie are no longer with us, their dream of providing joy, safety and hope to children who have suffered great hardship continues through the work of this foundation.

The happiness they wished for these children will keep growing, one project at a time, as their legacy lives on through every life we touch.

The New Team

Dr Suzanne Haylett
CEO & Founder

Suzanne has retired from medical practice to give her full attention to achieving the goals of this foundation.

Her desire to help improve the lives of these children does not only come from her desire to continue with Charl’s legacy; it also comes from the fact that her and Charl’s father, Kallie, grew up in a children’s home.

Like Charl, Kallie was always willing to help someone in need. Through this foundation, Suzanne is continuing their legacy of kindness to others.

Our Vision

Our vision is a world where every child has a safe space to grow, learn and dream regardless of their circumstances.

Guided by Charl and our founders’ compassionate spirit, this foundation strives to create brighter futures for children who face extraordinary challenges, ensuring they feel seen, valued and supported.

Our Mission

Our goal is simple yet profound: to help children in underfunded children’s homes dream new dreams by providing them with safe, welcoming spaces where they can live with dignity.

We know that every new ceiling, every fresh set of bedding and every safe, renovated space brings us closer to a world where every child can look forward to a brighter tomorrow.

Why We Do It

One afternoon on a beach, a young boy was picking up starfish washed ashore after a storm and throwing them back into the ocean.

A man saw him throwing starfish back into the ocean. Given the hundreds that washed ashore, the man approached the boy and said, “You can’t save them all, so what difference are you really making?”

The boy looked down at the starfish in his hand. “I might not save them all,” he replied, “but for this one, I am making a difference.”

Our Values

This foundation exists to make a difference. With every project, we focus on resilience, kindness and the belief that every child deserves a safe, loving environment.

Like the young boy, we know we may not be able to reach every child in need, but we can make a world of difference for each child we do.

Together, we can change lives, one project at a time.
